Tickets and cards for the Sofia Metro

Traveling on the Sofia Metro is easier than ever with a variety of tickets and travel cards, designed for every type of passenger, whether you are a visitor or a daily commuter.

Here is everything you need to know to get around the city smoothly and affordably. The prices in this article are valid from 1 January 2026 and follow the official tariff of the Urban Mobility Center.

Single tickets

If you are traveling by metro only once, you can get a single-journey ticket for just €0.80 / BGN 1.56.

It is sold at the ticket machines and ticket offices on the territory of Metropolitan EAD, located at the entrances of metro stations.
After purchasing, validate your ticket at the entrance barriers.
This ticket does not include transfers. If you plan to switch to a bus, tram or trolleybus, use a Ticket 30+ (€0.80 / BGN 1.56) or a Ticket 60+ (€1.10 / BGN 2.15) instead.
On surface transport, a single-journey ticket without transfer rights issued by the driver costs €1.00 / BGN 1.96.

Travel by bank card (contactless payment)

Prefer to travel without unnecessary things? Use your contactless credit or debit card directly at the metro barriers (look for the blue validators). The official tariff offers 30+ and 60+ tickets on this type of payment medium (Pay-As-You-Go).

Each trip: charged as a Ticket 30+ — €0.80 / BGN 1.56.
Many trips in one day? The total for the day does not exceed €2.00 / BGN 3.91 (the price of a daily card with aggregation).

No paper tickets, no problems — just tap, travel and enjoy!

The charge is made after midnight, so you will not see the payment immediately.

Electronic travel cards: Sofia City Card and Ultralight

Sofia offers two contactless electronic cards that you can top up for access to the metro and public transport:

Sofia City Card

Card price: €1.50 / BGN 2.93 (one-time fee)
Load tickets such as 30+ (€0.80 / BGN 1.56), 60+ (€1.10 / BGN 2.15), daily, monthly or even annual cards.
Monthly and annual cards are available in personalized (with photo) or non-personalized versions.

Ultralight

Card price: €0.40 / BGN 0.78 (one-time fee)
Load Ticket 30+ and Ticket 60+ and short-term cards.
Suitable for visitors who stay a few days or for occasional users.

Both cards are available at the metro ticket offices and at the offices of the Urban Mobility Center.

All tickets and cards must be validated when boarding any public transport vehicle, not just the metro.

With a personalized card, your name and photo are linked to the card, making it non-transferable. Non-personalized cards can be shared!

Additional information

Night transport: additional monthly card — €3.00 / BGN 5.87; additional annual card — €30.00 / BGN 58.67.
Fine for traveling without a valid ticket: the inspector issues a single-journey ticket for €20.00 / BGN 39.12.
